Updated: Apr 25

In a groundbreaking surgical procedure, Dr. Ankit Jose from St. Joseph's Hospital manjummel has become the first surgeon in X to utilize Hyalofast for repairing a chondral lesion in the knee. This innovative approach marks a significant advancement in the treatment of knee injuries, offering new hope to patients suffering from chondral lesions. Thiis is the first time this case is being performed in Kerala.

Hyalofast, a biodegradable, non-woven scaffold composed of hyaluronic acid, is designed to support the entrapment of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) for the repair of chondral and osteochondral lesions. Its unique properties allow it to conform easily to the lesion's anatomy, providing a stable and effective solution for cartilage repair.

Dr. Ankit Jose successfully applied Hyalofast in a recent surgical case, demonstrating its potential to enhance patient outcomes. "Hyalofast is a remarkable product," Dr. Ankit Jose commented. "Having Hyalofast available is a game-changer for us. It offers better options for patients suffering from chondral lesions of the knee, allowing for more effective and less invasive treatments."

Dr. Vincent Chakiyath, the Head of the orthopaedic Department, Manjummel commented that the use of Hyalofast in this procedure highlights its versatility and effectiveness. It can be used in combination with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) or as a standalone chondroprotective coverage, making it adaptable to various surgical techniques

Patients treated with Hyalofast have reported significant pain reduction and improved joint function, enabling them to return to their daily activities with greater ease

This pioneering effort by  St. Joseph's Hospital manjummel sets a new standard in orthopedic surgery in X, paving the way for more widespread adoption of advanced cartilage repair techniques. With Hyalofast, patients now have access to cutting-edge treatment options that promise better recovery and improved quality of life.
